Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen has been serving the working poor, families, homeless and seniors living in and around the downtown and East Side of San Jose for more than 27 years. What began as a simple first meal of fish and bread for 11 adults and 15 children has grown to 1,000 meals per week, served with dignity. Loaves & Fishes is committed to providing free, nutritious meals and support services in a dignified, safe, and caring environment. These services are provided to all needy individuals, with special concern for families and senior citizens.
Loaves & Fishes was founded in 1980 to help meet the needs of our community's families and seniors. Since our initial meal, served to 26 guests on February 15, 1980, we have continuously expanded our outreach. Today, we serve five meals each week at our two kitchen locations combined, plus InnVision, to an average of 200 guests per meal.
Many Presbyterians in the San Jose area volunteer and donate funds to Loaves and Fishes. Recently it was necessary to move a kitchen from one church to the site of a homeless shelter. This move turned out to be very costly and Loaves and Fishes incurred the expenses of moving and reworking their equipment to fit a different space. Your donations would help Loaves and Fishes get ahead as they face an even larger number of dinner guests in their new location.
