Nuevo Amanecer New Church Development in Bakersfield, CA, helps to provide health insurance for the children of poor farm workers, in their congregation, who cannot afford it on their own. When these children become sick, they often go without medical care, sometimes leading to serious and life-long complications.
Using California’s program that supplies basic health insurance to children for a nominal monthly fee, the congregation is assisting the parents by helping to pay for at least half of the premium. However, when they can’t even afford half, for example following a citrus freeze, the church picks up the parents’ half as well. The parents see that their children are healthier and work towards paying the whole premium, so other children like theirs can be added to the insurance.
Nuevo Amanecer‘s tamale sales and special offerings barely raise enough money to pay the premiums for the children they currently have enrolled. Your gift will enable them to enroll more children.
