This 36-year-old ministry is centered in the Tenderloin and addresses the needs of the homeless and poor. Prostitutes find a safe haven at the Network Ministries’ SafeHouse where they learn to rebuild their lives. A computer-training center is staffed for children and adults thus equipping them for school, homework and job readiness. Network Ministries constructed 38 apartments of affordable family housing in partnership with Asian Neighborhood Design. Within the apartment complex are programs that include tutoring, counseling and enrichment. Network Ministries along with other coalitions, actively advocates for systemic change by working on specific issues related to the marginalized people in the Tenderloin. On weekdays, Network Ministries conducts a drop-in chaplaincy called ‘The Listening Post’ at the Ambassador Hotel in the Tenderloin. More than 80% of the residents have AIDS or are HIV positive. A corps of volunteer chaplains provides spiritual support and help build community among the residents.
